On the first day of my no sugar diet I fasted for 12 hours. I also drank lots of water.
I felt that I needed to start as I mean to go on. Meaning that from time to time I am going to overdo it. I like to do too much. It keeps things interesting.
I then transitioned to Intermittent Fasting. The 16:8 ratio. I fast from 8pm to 12 noon and only eat between noon and 8pm. Pretty painless as you sleep through some of the fasting.
I find this really really helps with resetting my digestive system. I never feel bloated now like I used to before. I use to also sweat in my sleep sometimes, which just feels horrible and completely ruins my rest. Now I don’t sweat in my sleep at all because by the time I get to bed my digestive system has done it’s job so I can just sleep and heal up.
I say heal up because that is or was big for me when I was in the middle of my fight career.
Always training meant always injured so I had to pay attention to my sleep even if just to make sure that I was healing up so I could go break myself again.
Nowadays this is how I view diet and exercise. It’s all about prehab. Staying ahead of the injuries managing them when I have to.
As I get older injuries become more unpredictable and less avoidable.
There’s also a school of thought that suggests that fasting helps to heal the body. I won’t speak on that too much because the information I have on it is anecdotal and hearsay.
I will say though during my career I presumed it to be true and used it myself and it worked for me. Or at least I think it did. Maybe I would’ve had the same results just resting.
Anyhoo, I’m on a sugar free diet, intermittent fasting and training most days so my lifestyle change is steaming ahead.
Respek 👊🏾
